Getting Freekeh with Some Healthy Cooking

I'm part of a supportive fitness group called Sweat Pink Ambassadors, and often I'll have the opportunity to review health-related projects. Recently, I tasted Freekeh, a green wheat grain. It's similar in texture to farro, is pleasantly chewy, and definitely satisfying, and in this post, you'll find a chance to win your own bag of this fun grain.

While I wanted to be the one doing the cooking, life got in the way, and the baby needed me (as she tends to do, given that she's a very tiny human).  So, my husband took over cooking responsibilities. We tried both the original and rosemary sage flavors, with rosemary sage being a more flavorful compliment to our meal.

Since Freekeh is a healthier grain, we stuck with a healthier approach to our meals. We grilled chicken and served in on top of the original grain, topping both with avocado and cilantro. The meat was delightfully smokey, which meant that the grain didn't need too much flavor. We paired the meal with a delicious pinot, and the whole meal was a hit, not too filling but perfectly satisfying.

For the second meal, I put several chicken tenders in the slow cooker with some Kinder's BBQ sauce.  We served a butter lettuce salad with homegrown cherry tomatoes and parmesan cheese on the side. The chicken paired well with the rosemary sage freekeh, though it was a bit plain. For the next go around, I will cook the grain in organic chicken broth for an extra flavor boost.  I'm also eager to try some of the yummy breakfast options I've seen!
